Concept Statement:
The driving factor in the development of Nora is to provide additional task lighting for the occupants of Lillis Cafe so that people can work more effectively when the daylight and recessed can lights are not enough. The light distribution originates from the center, then flows upward and downward to provide vertical light for users in Lillis Cafe. In our final prototype we used bleached muslin fabric for the lamp shade and to cover the back of the MDF base. The wooden dowels we used for this luminaire were used in the first and final prototype. This lamp is energy consciousness because we used LED lights.
Concept Sketches:
The bottom side of our luminaire is larger than the top because the direct light for the seating beneath is more important to our design than
the direct light that would reflect off the ceiling.
Our design aims direct light out the top and bottom of the lamp shade, this is because we wanted to provide more direct light for users of
the space in the seating beneath the columns where the luminaires would be located. We also wanted to add diffused light through the shade to increase brightness to improve the overall lighting quality of the space.
