Romania Inc.

Concept Statement:

The University of Oregon Romania building, once a Chevrolet Dealership and Coca-Cola Bottling Plant the site of our project: an adaptive reuse mixed use academic business incubator, in association with the University of Oregon. As a business incubator this space will rent out spaces to entrepreneurs who are looking to start a business, not only will it provide workspaces, makerspace, fabrication labs, and collaborative spaces but it will also serve the function of facilitating collaboration, mentorship, learning and community connections. Additionally, as a site on the historical register the iconic Display Pavilion’s historic qualities and elements will be preserved, while the interior warehouse spaces will be transformed into an innovation hive. Our mission is to create a physical space that provides a flexible and scalable space in which community members can start and grow their businesses. This space will encourage connections between tenants and be utilized as a space where tenants can welcome the public to interact with their products. Community integration will be the primary focus of this project because local support, investment and interaction is vital to the success of tenants’ enterprises. Furthermore, welcoming Eugene residents into the incubator as visitors, tenants, investors, etc. offers an opportunity for the University of Oregon to share resources and opportunities with the surrounding community.
